Purchased: Samsung Omnia SCH-i910

I just bought the Samsung Omnia SCH-i910 from Verizon Wireless.  I previously had–and really liked–the XV6900, but after spending a few hours working with Verizon Wireless technical support on Friday, trying to troubleshoot my being unable to authenticate after a hard reset, the only option they offered was replacement.  I’ve had the device for over a year was past the warranty, so I figured it was time for an upgrade.

I don’t know what the deal with this phone is, but it was only $50 (with 2-year activation of course) despite having the two big features of a 5 mega-pixel camera and 8 GB of internal storage.  I had to ask the clerk, “Why is this only $50?” and she attributed it being a promotion.  Maybe they’re just trying to clear some shelf space for something newer and better coming out, but (so far) I think this phone will keep me satisfied for awhile.  In addition to the two features mentioned, it has wi-fi, which the XV6900 didn’t, and the GPS works out of the box without any additional hacking–as was necessary for the xV6900.  I should mention Verizon enabling the GPS is a fairly recent event and require a fireware upgrade on my part–but that was it.

I can’t comment on battery life yet or anything like that, but I imagine with wi-fi and the larger screen it will probably be less than the XV6900.  And although most people find the sluggishness of Windows Mobile frustrating, particularly with touch screens, I’ve only had Windows Mobile devices so it doesn’t bother me.  The XV6900 also had a stylus which I didn’t need most of the time, but occasionally it did come in handy…the Omnia has a stylus, but it’s external which I think is a really stupid idea.
